I have a leather vest with a large POW patch on the back along with the 3 unit patches from 3 different services. Along with the Vietnam Vet patch on the front... I always wear my ribbons on Memorial day and Veterans day all day long at work.
I also wore my Vietnam jungle jacket as a Pro-military statement at the very Liberial College I attended.

Here is my version of a patch in place of a pin on a kilt. I only do this for athletic purposes because although I want to wear a pin, I don't want a pin to get in the way or cause injury during the sport.

If you want to decorate a kilt with something non-traditional, I say do it, and wear it with pride!

    Greetings from Kalamazoo!

Not much to add to the advice here (no service cred to offer), but I do see a wide range of patches and insignia displayed when I play at Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, so there seems to be a fair amount of latitude.

ID:	17771I had considered attaching my old cap "Motto" to my cilt, above or instead of a pin, but once in place, it'd have to stay there as it'd make holes in the apron, so I haven't done it.
