In my youth too many years ago to worry, we used to take a couple of spare, starched collars to a black tie do, in a special "collar box"(leather usually) and monogramed as there were dozens of collar boxes lying around in the cloak room, to change quickly when they got soggy with perperation or, if some lipstick had "somehow" found its way onto the collar. It only took a few seconds to change the collar and re-tie the tie in the cloakroom. Mind you, most dances in those days were in big houses where even with a couple of titanic sized boilers going full blast it was somewhat of a SAS survival course and dancing, er, um, closely with one's partner was always a necessary survival exercise!
