I wear my kilts mostly when I'm doing outdoor activities and I'm very active in the Boy Scout program. When I'm in public, especially around the Scouts, I wear some kind of underwear. I'd hate for the wind to pull a Marilyn Monroe and get me branded as a sex offender and therefor, prohibited from ever working with Scouts again. I much prefer going regimental, and around the house I do, but in public, I am covered so that I don't get arrested.

Personally, I go commando under my kilt, or regimental, or whatever you would prefer to call it. But then I do the same thing in pants. I haven't owned a pair of underwear since I became an adult.
With that being said, I believe in a time and a place for everything. I tend to keep myself covered well, even if I am sitting "with my legs open". The kilt STILL covers everything, especially with a sporran attached. On the flip side, when I am partying with my biker buddies at a closed venue and someone jokingly asks "what's under the kilt", they're likely to get an eye full.
It's all about time and place.

So let me think here how to put this cleanly. Men in general enjoy noticing women and a lot of men enjoy seeing things a little more exposed. OK, I won't go any further, because I think everyone gets what I am hinting at and I am not going to pretend I am not one of those men. It's just a males basic nature that goes into all kinds of opinions and moral beliefs. That said.........
I was at the Scottish Festival yesterday and I noticed a lot of men wearing shorts or speedo's under their kilts. Now let me make it clear I could care less if some man goes commando or wears undergarments under their kilt and that's is their preference, but to wear shorts or speedo's seems to me to be......1 pointless and 2 a bit of a double standard. Don't you think women would like some eye candy? If you're worried that someone might see your junk or underwear. don't you think you should learn to wear or move and sit in a kilt correctly. I mean come on...... men brag about their junk all the time! So, don't you think. That if they are that worried about their modesty. They would be a little more respectful towards a Woman's modesty? Ok I'm letting myself get carried away.
So, I can't help but to wonder about a couple of things. Is men wearing shorts under their kilts a common thing?
I am not sure how to pose my other questions and I am to new to this forum to know if this is the forum to have this discussion, but I just wanted to rant, lol.

Charlie,
I think this thread is going off in all directions and is now one concerned with merely what one wears under the kilt. As to your original point I fully understand what you are saying and I completely agree. Wearing a kilt makes me so much more aware of what women deal with while wearing skirts and dresses. Wearing shorts and the like under a kilt would be the same as a woman wearing shorts under a skirt. I also think it just as bad when I see a guy that wears his kilt too long. It's just another attempt to preserve modesty. One should wear what he wants but there's no need to wear outergarments under outer garments. Women take the risk, so should men. And I think this is the point.

I do think and hope that the women around me do wear underwear under their skirts.
I think (I might be wrong) that the whole regimental thing comes from a time when the shirts were much longer than now.
So one undergarments became shorter and a new one (pants/boxershorts...) were added to the shopping basket.

As indeed I believe it is for most men with regard to women, at least in public.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

BTW, I titled the links with, "Underwear under where?"

No, just learn to sit and move in a kilt in a way in which anyone who is remotely interested is kept guessing. It becomes second nature after a while. Though I am well past the age where anyone would be interested, you still don't want to give anyone an unexpected and unsolicited viewing, which includes, in my view, long speedo shorts; competitors competing excepted of course.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Personally, I don't feel comfortable wearing a kilt without some sort of undergarment. (I have a slight allergic reaction to wearing wool).
I do the same for a long car journey but I remove the shorts once my kilt is on. I stole this idea from an American gent when I visited the Gatlinburg Highland Games many years ago.
