Well don't that beat all! I've never seen one of those. Don't think one could get much more minimal than that!

Whew! That's a lot of money for sandals! Perhaps if I lived in S.C. I might feel differently. Do they make then in black??

It'll get there and I'm debating if I should make it a smartass comment or save it for a special subject. Oops! I'm wasting my cushion here!

    Complicated...

    Blu,

Well, the Highland Regiments in the Boer War & the Burma Campaigns of WWII did wear the "Aussie"-style slouch, which looks natty with the kilt -- and ball caps are one thing -- I usually wear a Scottish or Commonwealth-themed cap (I have a really nice old Hong Kong Police cap before the turnover in '97 that looks good!)

Sigh...I suppose I could live the Duncan/Monarch of the Glen look...maybe all of you will soften me up a bit...But I doubt it!

Headware seems to be a tough nut for me. I love the look of the Aussie slouch but haven't found one for sale around here. I may just order something over the net.

The very least I would wear (in public):
    Kilt,
    Belt,
Shirt (Polo or leisure - I now feel I'm a bit too old to be wearing a T-shirt in public),
    Sandals

Notes - which do not apply to Formal or semi-Formal dress occasions: No kilt (Traditional or contemporary) looks right or 'balanced' without a broad belt.

Sporrans are totally unnecessary if you have somewhere else to keep your 'bits and pieces. My keys are invariably on a key ring attached to the belt, and I have a small wallet that fits into a shirt pocket. I have no mobile phone and I will NOT wear a bum-bag (they look pretty grim on most chaps but downright ghastly on me!).

Short socks are definitely a no-no EVER with a kilt so, if I'm wearing shoes it's kilt hose pulled up (not with flashes, which are too formal when dressed casually), or if I'm in boots it's kilt hose rolled down (not pushed down, that looks slovenly!). With sandals: no socks/hose is THE rule)

But as others have said, so much depends upon where one is going whilst dressed casually, what one is doing and what the weather is like.

In passing: I used to be a true traditionalist and always wore all the accessories with my kilt including a tie and tweed jacket - even in summer -but, after many years of that, I came to my senses, realised that kilts don't have to be in tartan, or made from wool, and can be dressed up or dressed down as much as trousers can - if not more. Kilts are garments, for Heaven's sake, not uniforms or period costumes in everyday contexts! I've no need to wear a sporran and flashes to convince others that what I am wearing is a kilt, not a s---t. If they want to assume that I AM wearing a s---t, then that is up to them, that's their problem. I am confident in my own masculinity! 8) 8)

    Aussie slouch hats...

They're expensive, Blu...I was going to trade an Aussie Liason officer at the nearby military post for a US National Park Service (Smokey Bear) hat, but we never did work it out.

I have a Mountie/Park Ranger-style slouch with the Montana Peak/Lemon Squeezer a la the mounties that I have worn with my kilt which looks pretty cool, as well as being a nice source of shade to boot.
