Now then, didn't I tell you all just how marvellous this new all-black tartan is, when I posted a photo of myself wearing it back in June?

Having said that, and Nick would know the answer to this, I've a feeling that his "Black Island" tartan and my "Hidden Tartan" are not one and the same! It is difficult to tell from the photos, but I'd say there is a difference in the woven pattern.

If this is so, then I know what my next KiltStore purchase will be, and it'll be a full 8 yarder, not the 4 yard leisure number I currently have!

Looking on the Kilt Store web site, I cannot seem to find the little swatch example that Colin provided in his post. Are you sure that the kilt isn't a solid black? Perhaps I am not looking in the right place?

It was listed under Modern kilts, but is not there anymore. Perhaps they are just "out-of-stock" right now.

Oops - thanks for pointing this out guys! We've just radically rewritten our navigation system to make the sites faster and more reliable, and by chance this product appears to have gotten missed in the process so it hasn't been appearing in the menus. But it was there if you search for 'dark island'. The casual version is at
http://www.kiltstore.net/sr_swhdr_da...blackkilt.html (which may not show the Xmarksthescot discount?) I think our technical guys have now put it back in the menus.

I can't be 100% sure from the pic, but I think that Ham's 'hidden tartan' pic in his gallery is similar, but not exactly the same. The Dark Island is made by House of Edgar weaving mill, whilst Hamish's looks more like the Ben Dubh fabric produced by Marton Mills. It's testimony to the fabric's popularity that other mills are following suit.

Both of those are pretty cool. I may have just found a tartan I'd be comfortable wearing. I actually looked up the Taylor tartans and though I didn't care for most of them, Taylor Ancient started to grow on me after seeing a pic of someone in full regalia wearing it.
Here it is (rather than me try to describe it):

    Hope that worked

Also, I have no idea if this Taylor's the same as my Taylor (however we got the name), etc. Anyway, that's why I was never comfortable with the idea of wearing a tartan at all.

Point is, I love those Black Tartans!
