I think it is important to point out that the immigration of Scots, all over the world, has been constant sine the 1600's. My parents left in the 1950's seeking greener pastures as it were. So while we on this side of the pond tend to romanticize the Highland clearances, that sad part of history is just that, a sad part of the history of the Scots.

Haha that did go off track quite quickly didn't it? Pretty interesting discussion though.
The particular jacket I'm looking at is from MacGregor and MacDuff.
Anybody have any opinions, quality-wise? I'm attempting to make sure I get something I'll continue to wear after the wedding rather than something I'll wear once and never see again.

Very nice looking jacket/vest. You might have noticed MacGnMacD are X Marks partners. A very good sign. You can also connect with them in the Partners area on this forum.

I hadn't noticed actually, but thank you for pointing that out! I'll definitely be reaching out to them.

Looks pretty, and it's plain enough to go with just about any occasion it seems to me.
Good choice.

Here's a secondary option. The lady isn't thrilled about the price of the other, though I'm still attempting some bargaining with her. Realizing this one is likely Pakistani made, I do like the look of it as well, though my preference is with the lovat green. Can anyone speak to the quality of this shop, or would you folks steer clear?

You could always stay with good 'ol USA dollars and contact USA Kilts, also an X Marks partner.
I was told once, many yeas ago, that those of us without much money can not afford to by cheap things. That has rung true. The longevity of timeless quality is an important factor. If I may, I'm certain your lady would appreciate the difference a quality jacket will make on the day, and the many years of wear after.

Absolutely gorgeous... if indeed it turns out to look like the one in the picture. Some of the off-shore companies have been known to crib pictures right off of more reputable merchants' sites and then produce something second (or third) rate that looks... similar. Do be cautious; on the other hand, some of our members have had really good luck with some of those sources.
Check out where they are located, ask around for their reputation, and then just remember that Steve's pretty fussy about the XMarks advertisers, so they can generally be much more reliable.
