Hamish, you have a great knowledge of kilts (traditional and new) and the personality to make the read fun. Why not use that knowledge to generate a bit of income? Heck, you could order new kilts and claim them as research or business expenses. That translates into free kilts in my mind.

You can also travel the world and claim business expense. You gotta go on a promotion tour with your book.

Woah there, boys! Calm down now. Steady there, steady. ................ There, that's better!
How you do spoil and tease me!
Six months ago, I was asked to write an article for a non-internet kilt group's house magazine/newsletter, based on my kilted experiences whilst touring the USA last year - and I have not had time to draft that out yet! A book, therefore, would more than likely be published (probably unfinished) after my demise!
I'll add it to my "To Do" list though.

I don't agree with everything he says, but when I first started wearing the kilt (when there was no XMTS or really the Internet!) this book was a godsend.
When I began kilt wearing, back in the late 1940s, I simply looked at those around me and did what they did! (There was little choice at that time anyway!) Years later, when I began dancing seriously in London, I sent off for as many illustrated catalogues from established kiltmakers in Scotland as I could lay my hands on, and built up the general idea from studying them. I'd never read a book on the subject until I sent off for my Thompson last year!
Now that you're a member of the STA, you should talk to them about some sort of guide to kilt-wearing! 8)
Actually the Scottish Tartans Authority has quite a lot of interesting information on The Kilt on its website: www.tartansauthority.com and I particularly like what they have to say about white kilt hose!

I have a copy...
When I was in Scotland Two months ago, I saw one in the Edinburgh Train Station-I think it cost me about £6. If people are buying them for $130, anyone who owns a copy could make a killing.
It was an interesting read-but I can say I don't see eye to eye on most topics. The two best areas of interst to me-with credible information-was related to the wearing of a ladies sash and the appropriate sporran for different occasions. Those were my favorite sections; they ring truer than most the book.
Good book, fun to have, not to be lived line by line.

I purchased my copy of the book at the tourist imformation office in Oban last summer.
The book I found Interesting ,if not a little quaint
Also as Hamish has pointed out it's geared to the North American market.Somthing that comes across in the text while reading it.
The sections on Sorran use and All the DIY are all relevant. I have made a sporran(with a few mods) using the patterns from the book.I do however think that $149 is digging for gold. Mine cost me £4.99
You can read the sporran chapter here:

All the best David

Thank very much You for this reference. The authors have a enjoyable degree of common sense. I like the site.
