I wonder if he also regrets ordering the muted.

I personally love the Gunn tartan in all variations, kinda makes me wish I were a Gunn to wear it! It seems like you really just don't like the kilt nor the tartan. Sell it at a small loss and re-purchase with the tartan you like. No sense in wearing the kilt if you don't do so proudly. I suggest you request fabric swatches next time so you can see what youre buying before paying for it.

I was thinking of posting pretty much the exact same thing, but Manu beat me to it.
But yes, it's obvious you don't like it, and it's highly unlikely that the rest of us singing the praises of the Muted palette will ever change that. So let it be a lesson that you should always, always order a swatch if you've never seen it with your own eyes. Now, I'm quite fond of the Muted colors, albeit more so for the somewhere-between-scarlet-and-burgundy red that I've always though works well with my Italian complexion; however, I do consider the earthier shades of green and blue to be a bonus, versus weathered palettes that try to pass off gray and tan as blue and green. But were it not for seeing the swatches, I may very well have wound up ordering something in D.C. Dalgliesh's Reproduction colors. And I'd've been quite disappointed that what appeared online to be a rich scarlet would instead have me walking around looking a giant tomato.

I really like those green & blue tartans, whether in Modern, Ancient, or Muted colours.
But tastes differ! And you don't like them. Are red tartans your favourites? Do you like green & blue tartans in modern colours?
Buying a kilt is a big investment, and I couldn't imagine buying a kilt I didn't like.
I played in this band for a couple years. I loved these kilts! (Flower Of Scotland tartan, nearly identical with Ancient Gunn.)

Richard, I don't really know. I do like my Black Watch a lot , its probably the best looking tartan out there to me. And I do like the way the Gunn tartan looks in the modern and ancient colors. Notice how much better this chap's kilt looks.DSC_9107_300 (1).jpgDSC_2210_617.jpgDSC_2147_617.jpg

Interesting, you like Modern and Ancient but not Muted. I like them all!
A dramatic example of how a tartan can look different when rendered in different colour-schemes is the tartan Bruce of Kinnaird. Arizona pipe band Mesa Caledonian wore it in Ancient colours for many years. Recently they switched to the same tartan in Modern colours. Here they are
