IIRC, it was a tad over 2300 yards, but he cheated. He managed to mount a scope on a Ma Duce and I think he adjusted the gas regulator down to make it a manual repeater.

Thats correct. He used a scope on I think a .50 cal. Im not sure, but he did use the scope.

I've got a great video of Gunny Hathcock before he died. He was very funny. I got chills when he told the story about Apache. Even after all those years, you could see how much it meant to cap her.

Retired Navy here. Intel and Cryptology plus 4 years "Pushing Boots" at RTC Orlando. Had a great 3 year tour at NSGA Edzell, Scotland and wear the Navy Edzell tartan with pride. Gov't civilian now at the Joint Interagency Task Force in Key West.

I was the WSO at Pendelton AVTB ( water safety officer / amphibian vehicle test branch )
that is my experience with the greenside
As far as snipers go the best are Navy hate to break it to you Marines I was at sniper school at Pendleton in 2004 Marines are good better than Army but no where close to Navy.
