I just read the start date on this thread and realized that this argument is about a year old... oops. Guess this can rest now.

Sometimes the messages can be like being caught in a time warp. It can be pretty funny sometimes.

Oh, but it's still a fun one!
Regarding kiltmakers on the forum...I certainly hope that none of you ever feel the need to apologize for your posts or opinions.
It's a free country (here in the U.S.A. that is) and we are free men.
Besides, in soooo many ways, you are the authorities here, so whether or not someone disagrees, at least we have folks we can ask serious questions of.

Well..some of my ancestors were known as "Lord", on one side of the family some were known as "Your Majesty". Some were known as the ones who sewed, cooked, cleaned and farmed for said "Lords".
With that being said, if I like the color / sett / style and have some connection I'll wear it. Muted, Ancient, Modern, Finger paint or whatever.

Very weird, because it is one year old as of yesterday, and yesterday it got bumped up by a new member. doo-doo-doo-doo--doo-doo-doo-doo (twilight zone music)

After all this discussion...did Prester John ever get that Clergy Muted kilt? I'm actually thinking of taking the plunge to get one made. I am ordained, and I've seen a swatch of the HOE clergy Muted and its my favorite in that tartan.
So... anyone have a Clergy Muted kilt? Are there any pictures posted of such? It would be nice to get a pic of a whole kilt from that cloth.
I know this is an "ancient" thread...but maybe someone can still respond?

In essence wilst continuing to wear my own tartan-I can ring the changes.

I can help you out there a bit. I have had some experience (limited to just one class one summer) in the use of "natural dyes". Many of them (onion comes to mind) are quite bright if used with the proper mordant (chemical salt added to make the dye "bite" better.) Most of the vegetable reds were less bright than modern, but some were quite bright. Blues, greens also could be very vibrant.
How they would look a hundred years from now is another question.
Hope this helps.
