Also, love the tweed and I like the longer suit coat. It looks great from the front but I wonder if the length is distracting to the pleats when seen from the back.
The look is pure confidence, if I were to characterize it. He looks good with the pockets (I'd look clownish) because he knows he's making a statement. Good for him and if it helps to moves the kilt forward to a new generation . . . great. They all come back the the tartan sooner or later (have no fear, lads).
