Here's my latest effort, Lochcarron Strome weight in MacDonnell of Glengarry weathered, which I finished last night. Just shy of 4 yards.

(pleat shots will follow... I had my youngest son snap a couple, but they didn't come out very well.

Well alright,I have looked at enough box pleated kilt pictures now for me to form an opinion and whilst there is undoubted skill in making them and a huge pleasure for those that own them.For me,I prefer the knife pleat.Each to their own.

I think the problem is that you might all too associate this style of box pleats with a very popular form of woman's skirt (like nearly all short woman's skirts, jackets, tights, pumps and blouses more historically mens than womens wear.):

(example from Kinloch Anderson).

Precisely because knife pleating has clearly become the standard of highland garb--- save the very special Army "box pleats" (e.g. A&S)--- older forms that have been integrated within woman's fashion have been abandoned. They are widely considered except by experts and fashion historians (incorrectly) as skirt inspired. Its especially this "skirty" look, I could imagine, that draws ones line--- one way or the other.
