Seems you have a lot of choices. I'd say go with something that'll make anyones head turn, and give you that "what???" look. For that I like either the name "Lassie" (guaranteed to keep strangers away), or "Trout".

    Anyway, good luck.

Well I had thought Deeogee (DOG) or Simon but I was beaten to it!
    How about "Ralph" (Rowlf)

    Hijacked dog

Puppies are great (and I will prob'ly end up with one, when I lose my mind - again), but my wife and I have decided to open our home to elderly shelter dogs of any mix/breed having difficulty finding a home as we lose our 4 current "furkids" and we are ready for more. We're a middle-aged couple with a step-son (her child) in the teen years not especially interested in dogs, and we work with kids - a teacher, and a behavioral intervention type - with (very) flexible hours - so we don't have the time to put up with "puppy" behavior - but as a trainer, I know that with most dogs, with whatever remains of the "Current" pack when introduced, we'll most likely be able to fit it right in - and we're getting good at "rough" fits! An older dog (yes, soapbox coming!) is almost always trainable - it would have been euthanized, otherwise - (can everyone here be taught to make a kilt? It is often just about time and effort) and usually housebroken. Also, they are usually calmer and settle more quickly into the household routine than younger dogs do. Now that I'm off my soapbox -

Happiness is a warm puppy! Best of luck with the new addition!

I have not read all the posts, and I'm sure you've received many great ideas. You could always go with something traditional like "haggis" It sounds almost like Hamish, which is not a bad choice either. Said with Reverence and respect.

Thanks again to all who suggested names. I think we are leaning toward Simon at this point, the traditional name of the chief of Clan Fraser. We had already had that one on our list and Cavscout also suggested it. My wife also liked Winston and Rob Roy and I was partial to Angus myself but Simon seemed to be the best compromise. My boys liked Rocky (the boxer, not the kilt-maker!) but he just didn't look like a Rocky to me. I wanted something Scottish since he's part Border Collie (at least that's what they told us) but it had to be a "normal" name to suit the spouse. Had to leave him in the basement today since it's pouring rain and he won't go in the old doghouse. Guess I'd better dig out my pooper scooper.
