My first kilt was not quite the tank category, it is only 11oz wool, black watch tartan, selected mainly because it matched the bag on my pipes. Now I own several more modern types and am in negotiations with a local kilt maker to get a "tank". Thanks for all the great advice and support.

The first one I got was a SWK Black Watch that I bought from AlanH.

I loved that so much that it wasn't long before I went and got an Irish National from SWK. Then a month ago I added a Sport Kilt with the "Irisher" tartan.

My first was a Blackwatch off the peg from Kiltmart, got it on Ebay. Eight more have followed since, mainly SWK, but also two Amerikilts, and two UKs.

    First Kilt

My first, (and to date only,) is a MacLaren modern tank. You may have read my post on how I got in another thread, I'll spare you the story this time. I thought one would be enough. But...because of y'all, (and don't tell my wife yet,) I hoping to own four or five. Probably one more tank, (Edinburgh District,) an SWK, and who knows.
    Respectfully,
    David

My first, not too long ago, was a Geoffrey (Tailor) Drummond of Perth 13oz, 8 yard, possibly handsewn creation I bought used from David Pope off ebay. It is very nice. I also have a recent purchase of a Thrifty Kilt I took camping a couple of weeks ago, and in the next few days I will have a 4 yard box pleat from Matt in the Ulster tartan. I also have the Earl of St. Andrews tank that is too small and currently for sale on ebay (closes tomorrow, so go buy it now!)

My first kilt (2002), a self-made, handsewn casual kilt with full width aprons, made from cheap, locally obtained cotton upholstery fabric.

My latest kilt (2007), a self-made, handsewn, traditional 8-yard military box pleat kilt, fashioned from 16 oz MacLaren Weathered tartan from Lochcarron Mills.

    A very satisfying journey...

Mine was a Red Mackintosh traditional that I got from a little shop here thirty-three years ago. It has seen a lot of use, and if kilts could talk . . .

My first kilt was an $80 4 yard 8oz pv Bear tartan kilt. I think it was number 30 something that he had made.

Here's the order I took to get to where I am now:

    1. 4 yard PV Black Watch Bear kilt (summer 2003)
    2. 4 yard PV (MM) MacKenzie Bear Kilt (January 2004)
    3. Acrylic MacKenzie kilt from Canada Kilt (spring 2004) - later sold
    4. 8 yard PV Royal Stewart (MM) Bear Kilt (summer 2004) - later sold
    5. 8 yard handsewn 16 oz wool Ancient Watson kilt (december 2005) -current fancy kilt
    6. 8 yard machine sewn 13oz Weathered MacKenzie kilt (spring 2007) - current less fancy kilt
