Thanks for your service, Marine. We always pray for you.
I'd say a Leatherneck kilt or a Marine desert camo kilt, like Sgt. Farr!
Stay safe, and Godspeed to you.

Thank you for your service in the name of our country.
Leatherneck kilt with an up front explanation to your COs before actually wearing it. Explain the background, etc..., as others here have suggested.
Please look a couple days back for a thread in General Kilt Talk (Leatherneck lovers kilt deal) I started about a good deal right now on the Leatherneck Tartan wool 16 oz custom casual kilt from Burnetts & Struth---about $140 US plus whatever shipping to where you are stationed right now. The extra discount coupon is only good for two more days.

Your command should not have a problem. I work at the US Military Academy, a civilian. A MAJ who is the offficer in charge of the Pipes and Drums here (I am his assistant) often wears a kilt to functions unrelated to the pipe band. Worn properly, there should be no problem in wearing it. You should not be considered a cross-dresser.
That said, I would suggest you go through the chain of command to clarify any lingering doubts you may have about wearing a kilt on off duty time. For what it is worth...there is a US Marine Corps tartan and a US Marine Corps Pipers Association.

Hey Marine!
I wore a acu camo kilt when I was in Iraq and Afghanistan with no problems! And plenty of others including marines have them!
But then again I was the CO!

Off duty wear what you like, a kilt if you're entitled, and with pride laddie....
I wore a strip of tartan around my tags, ("to stop them jingling") just to remind me where home was, and why I was 'here'.
Take care.

guys, let's let this thread die a quiet death.
This guy has never been back to check what has been written.
The last time he was even on the forum was March of last year.
We are proud of our service and proud of our Corps, and we have rallied to the aid of a fellow Marine marvelously, but geez, the guy never even came back to see what we wrote.
Let it go.

I have to agree with cavscout. Currently, I am on active duty with the USAF by way of the Air National Guard. I am also the Post Commander for the local Scottish American Military Society (SAMS). I have a USAF kilt that I wear all of the time. I have also wore it to a formal Joint Forces Christmas Party in 2007. Everytime, I represent SAMS at a festival or parade, I will wear the USAF tartan. I purchased mine from Alexis down in Florida along with a USAF belt buckle. I have worn my USAF kilt with my mess top. With all of the medals it really looks good.
I would get the Leatherneck kilt first and wear it with pride. Good luck.
