Welcome to Xmarks from a relative newbie here myself, having found the place while looking for reviews of kilt accessories before the NH Highland games last year. Gorgeous skunk sporran there. I just placed my order for a glengyle beaver fur sporran today. I've only got a couple kilts, but I figured that I might as well get the best sporran I possibly can, because no matter what kilt I wear I'll need a nice sporran.

    Thanks man.

Yep, a great sporran is a real must, and the beaver is an awsome choice! That's easily the best feeling fur offered (even including the mink, in my oppinion). Also, I think Lamar's sporrans will last a lifetime, no problem. Word of warning though: Watch out for the "Beaver" jokes, as they'll come flying in out of nowhere. I've seen it happen (it's hillarious).

...great choice though. I almost went for the beaver myself, but the skunk reminded me a lot of some hair sporrans I'd seen, from the 1800's. There's a picture of John Brown and the other ghillies at Balmoral, from 1858, that shows the kind I'm talking about (you can see it on the back of Bob Martin's book, All About Your Kilt, but I don't know where to find it on the web). Brown, and several of the ghillies, are wearing black hair sporrans with two white tassels, that give much the same effect as the stripes of the skunk.

I hadn't even thought about that, but you're right. The skunk stripes do resemble the two toned hair sporrans.

    Oh, and welcome aboard Ryan.

I had my first real chance to wear this beauty this evening. We had friends over for dinner, and I wore it as seen in the picture. Thankfully our four-legged children didn't take TOO much of a liking to it. There was some concern over that... They actually paid it no mind at all.

When I initially strapped it on I headed out the door to the store to pick of a couple of things I'd forgotten on my first trip. I immediately noticed something I hadn't when I posed for my brief, initia,l snap shot. The leather braids really get to swinging as you walk! It was a little "different" but within minutes I didn't even notice. I have to agree with something Matt said in one of his posts about these. They are TRULY a joy to wear. While the folks at the store, or my buddy and his girlfriend might not have "got it." I did. And that my friends is ALL that matters.

Oh and that's my "reading corner" in my home office we re-did a few weeks ago. And that monster on the table there is none other than The Stand, Stephen King. It's taking some time to get through.

FB sporrans are, as far as I'm concerned, the best high-end sporrans on the market. Hand craftsmanship really does make all the difference. For Christmas, I found a skunk Glengyle under the tree (and since this is my first post on this forum), here's a picture of it in action:

I may have to get one of those skunks. It would match what's happening in my own hair.
