Oh, no. The regimets wore/wear that combination regularly, and I am pretty sure that the Scouts copied their look from the British military. (I, too, wore that combo in in the Scouts in another century!)
I heartily appove of your look, Pinache. I wear a very similar look in the summer because of the practicality of the khaki shirt and the very neat, clean lines of the look. I prefer the balmoral myself, but my wife likes the glengarry, so . . . :
(BTW, this is an old photo, and I know the kilt is too tight. I've lost weight since! AND, I don't like the matching flashes as much as I do the red ones.)
My only suggestion is that you tie the ribbons on the bonnet. I know that there is a great deal of disagreement about that in general, but the military would never wear the ribbons losse on a balmoral like they do on a glengarry.

I think I will add this ensemble to by repetoire.
At our Kilt Night at the Devils Canyon Brewery our theme was "Black Watch"

When the Nor Cal Rabble were comparing the shine on those black boots it was noted that I was wearing brown leathers. All I could think to say was " well, an officer of course..."

Jim:
In Chappell's Scottish Units in the World Wars, there is a print of a private in the 6th Highland Light Infantry wearing a diced balmoral with untied ribbons. If my memory serves me correctly, the KOSB and the Royal Scots also wore their ribbons untied. It seems to be a Lowland regiment thing.
