To tie several elements of this thread back together, a costumer of my acquaintance commented most particularly on the Jeremy Brett portrayal of Holmes that he wore the Inverness and Deerstalker where they were appropriate, in the country.
I do agree with Hector to an extent; Thompson, in "So You've Decided to Wear the Kilt," is most emphatic that the kilt NOT be worn as a costume, a trap it would appear all to easy to fall into.

I do wear the kilt everyday, I do not look on as a costume, nor do I usually wear it that way. However, as the Inverness Cape is the proper outerwear to partner with the kilt and I was lucky enough to have such a nice one made for me, I thought it would be fun to see how it looked in the vain of the greatest detective that never lived.
I plan on wearing my Inverness Cape my deerstalker and pipe on Halloween, I may wear a black suit under it all, not the kilt, though I've not worn a suit since March of last year when I made the switch to full time kilt wearer.

Glen-
I really did love Jeremy Brett as Sherlock. I remember watching them Sunday nights when I was a kid with my Grandmother. I do own the Brett series and enjoy re-watching it often (usually the birthday weekend and around the first week of May, two very import Holmes dates)You might enjoy Peter Cushing’s interpretation of Holmes as well. Although I hear Vasili Livanov and Vitali Solomin are an awesome Holmes and Watson, I just can’t understand Russian!!
If you are interested in Holmes, you might want to look into “The Boot Makers of Toronto”. They are a Sherlockian society based in Toronto. They hold interesting meeting nights (one was a tour of a forensic lab) and the quarterly magazine, The “Canadian Holmes” , is always very full of interesting Sherlockian essays.
They also support the Arthur Conan Doyle collection at the Toronto Reference Library. That floor is a Sherlockians dream come true. I think I spent at least 3 hours there last time I visited.
A good site to visit for Holmes information, including Societies, is Chris Redmond’s http://www.sherlockian.net/
Again Glen I think the hat looks grand. I even might have to get one some day!

I do have a DVD of 10 Sherlock Holmes movies on 3 DVDs. Included in the collection is the film Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace starring Christopher Lee as Sherlock Holmes, but have not seen Peter Cushing in the role.
WNED is playing the Jeremy Brett series on Saturday nights at 9:00 I have been watching them then.

I would follow up by asking how much was that pipe on eBay?
I've been looking to re-start pipe smoking, which is a bad habit I learned from my mother, an avid pipe smoker herself!
But as with everything else, I don't want to break the bank for a pipe either, so anything under $50 is good in my cheap/thrifty book.

Nice looking deerstalker. On the lighter side,..might I suggest Gene Wilder's movie, "Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother."
