Somehow, I ran across this forum while surfing things pertaining to kilts and things Celtic. Most of my ancestry that I can trace is Celtic. Clark is Scotch-Irish. It's Ó Cléirigh in Gaelic. The origin is “Cléireach”, meaning clergyman or clerk. The other names are Scottish, Welsh and Anglo-Norman (McRae, O'Rourke, Reynolds, Brown and Jermin (or Jermyn)).
Our church is having a Kirkin' o' the Tartans on Nov 16, so it gave me an excuse, encouraged by my wife, to get my first kilt. So it arrived from Sport Kilt yesterday. They have a "clergy" tartan is stock, which is really the Ancient Clark tartan. It works for me either way. It's great, and I can't say enough good about the service that I got from the folks at Sport Kilt. It proved to be a really good source for getting my first kilt. I'm sure that there will be more in the time ahead. I just ordered a matching sash for my wife.
Reading posts on the forum, I noticed that Sionnach also lists location as Peoria AZ. A couple of quick PM's and we discovered that we live about 3 miles from each other. That's pretty good considering the size and population of the Phoenix Metro area. We both have been known to go to the area's newest Irish Pub, Lis Doon Varna. It's a new favorite for both my wife and myself.
I've enjoyed what I've been learning on X Marks the Scot. Thanks!
Frank
