As my dad says, "It's better to make friends than enemies."

I've always been one who tries to forgive and forget, and move on. Respect the wishes of the bride and groom, and avoid making a huge scene about it. If you feel you must confront your mother regarding this, then do so in private, after the wedding, with a spirit of humility and reconciliation.

That's my advice, anyway. It's worked for me thus far.

Taking the high road is thought provoking when dealing with morals, values, if someone can be killed, mamed, sent to hell, raised to heaven. None of the above seeming to play into this ponderance. She was willing to play the game then, i'd have to find out for myself if she is still willing to play the game now. Have a little fun ya!!!!

No. If I were you, I'd probably consider not going at all.

You might split the difference -- trousers for the ceremony and a kilt for the reception.

I'm with Jack. Why would you want to attend the wedding of someone who pulled such a viscious stunt at your own wedding?

The lady sounds like a major control freak...whatever you wore it wouldn't be "right" and would "ruin" her wedding.

Run! Call in sick! Arrange for your car to break down!

same vote for me. I had an ex mother in law that was much the same way. We finally had nothing to do with her. I need help cleaning my gargage that day (whatever day it is) if you need an excuse!

I too agree with Ron on this, be on vacation as far away as you can. This sort of thing never really gets better.

On the other hand, you could use the 10% discount at Sportkilt this month to do as Rocky suggests(although I'm sure he would love to sell those to you himself).

    There's two ways to go:

    1) If you are shameless, deck yourself and as many others as possible in Utilikilts. She would hate the kilt and the "rough" non-formal look of the utilikit. This is contingent on not caring what a large group of family and friends may think.

    2) Crucify the woman with magnificence, luxury, and formality. Forget PC's. Go straight for a montrose or sherrifmuir (sp?) doublet. Drag out a fly plaid as well just to wow the guests. You'll be able to pass as an impressive highland lord, while the bride will have to keep her mouth shut in the face of the numerous compliments you receive or risk being exposed as a buffoon.

    BONUS

Give a kilt as a wedding gift to the groom.
