That brought a tear to my eye. I'm proud of my Canadian brothers and especially for that little boy who showed his respect in a most impressive way.

This choked me up, both the patience of the young man, and the respect of the commanding officer.

    Great video.

Anyone who has even worn a uniform understands the action of the troops.

You don't do it for the politicians, who often don't understand the soldier.
You don't do it for yourself, or you would probably be doing something else.
You don't do it for the old folks, whose time will soon be past.
You do it for the young ones like that, so they will have a future.

To this day the Belgians remember what Canadians did for them during WWII.

The standard military doctrine of the time was to shell the enemy positions with artillery before advancing on them with infantry. The Canadians said "Hold on here! People live here! We can't just go through dropping artillery on people's homes!" So they made their advances severely limiting the amount of artillery used. We ended up developing new techniques in house to house fighting - like "mouseholing", which IIRC is still being used in sandy places now.

A lot of Canadian soldiers died because they didn't use artillery that much. A lot more Belgians lived because they didn't.

Apparently, if you're wearing a Canadian Army uniform in Belgium, you have a hard time paying for your meal or beer.

BTW, apparenlty the little boy was dressed as a Seaforth. Caber Feidh gu Brath!

He looks so smart and military and am sure the Canadians found it very touching to be saluted by this young Belgian.

I can only echo what's been said before: Thanks for posting this. It brightened up my day, and very nearly brought a tear to my eye.

By the way, is the kit the boy is wearing a child-sized uniform/costume or is it a "real" military coat that's been cut down to fit him? It would be interesting to know the connection he has to the outfit that his uniform represents.
