I'm much more of a visual learner, so a lot of the patterns, even if the directions are good, don't make sense to me. If I watch someone else, I usually get it right away, so I will be sure to look up the videos you mentioned.
It is all ways easier for me to watch and repeat (monkey see monkey do) than learn from written material. KnittingHelp.com has a number of good videos that I learned from. There are also a lot of videos on YouTube that are helpful.
You might also pick up your phone book yellow pages an look for Local Yarn Shops (LYS) they often have classes or if you buy the yarn and supplies there will teach you one-on-one between other customers.
One last option would be to search the net for knitting or fiber guilds in your area. They are helpful to new knitters.
