Sorry, Rocky, but I don't care for either.

If the pattern will end up being as small as I think it will, then I would choose the lower of the two. I think it will mix into a very nice color. The upper choice seems like it might come out looking a little yellow. I've never been a fan of the color, but if you like then that certainly points you in the opposite direction of my suggestion.

The funny (or ironically sad) thing is that the voting goes pretty much down the line with EXACTLY how I feel about these 2... Some days I like the yellow better (as does Mac) and some days I like the greyish onebetter (as does our store manager Sue). Then there are odd days that I dislike both (as does Kelly... but I don't listen to her anyway ). This thread hasn't helped me make a decision... it's entrenched my INdecision on the different ones.

I may hold off for a little bit. I just got in 8 yards single for an All Ireland Blue tartan kilt (for myself) and have 8 yards single of Maple Leaf on order... I may be a kiltmaker, but I'm also an addict.

    Rocky,

My take is you aren't fond enough of either tweed to have a preference. I suggest you look for a tweed that really grabs you.

I didn't vote. There's no option for both.

They're both good looking. Sew them both up and be done with it. Excess, excess, excess....

I voted for the first one. I like the colors and they would go well with MY coloring.

See Matt's pictures though and I have to say that's a smart outfit.

Boy, that really helps doesn't it?

I'd love to see an "in action" shot of the All Ireland Blue. Please post a pic once you've got it sewn up. Also, is it different from the All Irish Blue swatch you show on your site? I've seen a couple of different swatches online and there seems to be lighter and darker blue versions (one place called the darker blue "modern.")

It's this one and I absoutely LOVE it... this image is a pretty good representation of the actual color:

BTW... I am about 9 pleats into the kilt and I noticed something... it has been a LONG day in the shop and I was so excited to work on the kilt that I started pleating it INSIDE OUT. Were this a customer's kilt, I would rip the pleats out and start over. Since it is for ME, I just poked the imperfections (there were about 8 spots where the thread was knotted and pulled to the bad side) through to the other side of the fabric. Now it looks perfect. No one will know (except a few discerning eyes).

Remember, not being able to make a decision is in itself a decision. Between the two IMHO I would suggest the second gray/maroon as I think it would look best on you. Dark hair, beard, black belt, sporran, shoes.....It's you, it's you!
