Ha ! Ha ! Of course ! Of course ! I perfectly get your point !

No, I wouldn't like to get you started on this matter.

Some would immediately snap back that neither the Scots invaders from Ireland, nor the Picts for that matter, were exactly gentlemen, etc. etc. etc.

    These were rough times...

That wasn't the point of my OP.

Half my "prestigious" ancestors murdered the other half... They would wed off their remaining, surviving offspring together to make peace, and start all over again a few generation later... rough time really.

The problem is, this is what the people of Scotland as a nation is historically : a blend of imperfect human beings coming from Celtic Ireland, Pictish Caledonia, Savage Galloway, North men and Saxons off all places.

Should we be proud of our belligerent ancestors ?

I'm not sure this Forum is the right place to debate this subject matter.

In spite of the modern myth :”My ancestors were the good guys...” it is traditional though for Scots and their descendants to be proud of their ancestors, good or bad. May they rest in peace.

    Best,

    Robert

Jokes aside (I refer to my own), I refer folks to the statements about ancestors quoted from the native person in the 'Crow Nation' thread recently found in General Kilt Talk.

    Cousin Forrester,

I'm a little concerned that you didn't take that comment in the spirit in which it was offered, so just in case let me assure you it was a joke of deepest satire. Good Python quote though.

Ah, the apples of Normandy: Calvados and superb cider. Thirst-slaking, Robert. I'm away to the tray to see what is there.
