    My family tartan is a bit too garish for my taste (I won’t name it in case my viewpoint offends someone). Instead I wear the district tartan applicable to the place where I was born (see my avatar), which I find a lot less garish. Who can identify where I was born?

    Considering it's the Chief whom decides what is the officially accepted images of the clan, why would anyone feel they have the right to say this tartan isn't the "real" tartan, no matter it's origin?

    There is only one person in any clan with that authority, last I checked. (Granted, most, if not all, Chiefs would not buck the traditions of the clan even if it's only a tradition of recent birth.) When you become Chief of a clan, you can pick the tartan...

    I'm not a huge fan of the Cummings Ancient (sorry, Cajun, but I don't care for that shade of green), but I'm sure as sin not going to tell Sir Alastair he's wrong in recognizing it.
