I posted a pic on facebook in my Halloween costume great kilt and got this:

"Rob,It looks comfy & you look good in it!! Not only are you funny,but what a GREAT sport!! Most men are to macho to wear something like that!! Not only are you wearing it,you posted it too!! You are a REAL man & I am proud of you!!"

I'm working on finding a decent roman style helmet for my halloween costume, which will include my green UK original. No fair guessing who (er, what) I will be going as.

A few months ago a teenaged girl in my church congregation told me how nice it was to see people wearing their cultural attire and how good I looked in my kilt. I have been told by a couple of the ladies "You're always so well dressed" when I wear a kilt jacket,waistcoat, Oxford shirt, tie, semi-dress shoes and sporran. I had one woman in my church, who is old enough to be my mother ash The Question right in the church. I told her that if she were a few years younger, I would show her. She hurried away blushing profusely. lol

While at church this past Sunday in my USAK Albannach casual and a custom sporran, a young man (15 years old) in our youth group asked me where he could get a kilt. He apparently has been wanting one for quite some time and his mother agreed to get him one for Christmas. I sent them to USAK to get a nice one, as he is planning to wear it to school.

Less than five minutes later, walking out the door, an attractive women of a certain age stopped me and said, "I admire your attire, sir."

Got lots of looks but alas no compliments at the performance of "Spamalot" that afternoon.

It's been a while since I posted...

I wear a kilt to work from time-to-time - rarely more than once a month, but everyone around me is used to it now. In fact, the head of my Business Unit (there's about 90 people under him) said at our Christmas party last year that he had been receiving comments from people all over the floor about "who's that guy in the kilt?!" :-)

I can't wear a kilt to work, I'm in the field alot and around heavy equipment on occassion.

However I have been wearing it for kickball religiously for the past year. A couple of the guys give me jest in fun, but may of the ladies tend to smile and wink. My teammates tend to call me skirt. I skipped wearing the kilt to a breast cancer fundraiser, as I didn't have a formal enough jacket, and was lamblasted by the teammates present for not wearing the kilt.

At the bar, while dancing a few have playfully lifted up my pleats.

I find it works great as an icebreaker for someone who has socialphobia.

I'm kilted at work today. I usually try to wear it once or twice a month but for various reasons hadn't done so for about two months.

Yesterday, several co-workers remarked they hadn't seen me in my kilt recently and wanted to know when I'd wear one again. Thus, I came in kilted today.

I received some favorable comments from upper management. They wanted to know why I don't wear it more often - I take that as encouragement to do so.

Today I raced in the Mud Quest Run down near Waco, TX. They explicitly requested long pants, so I didn't run kilted, but I did change into my Irish Heritage as soon as I was finished (I can't begin to tell you how amazing it felt to get out of those soaked pants and into a kilt).

Anyway, as I was meandering towards the beer tent, two very lovely young ladies called to me and lamented that they can't get their hubbies in kilts, because "it takes a real man to wear a kilt"

Several other thumbs ups and comments like "awesome!" and "love it!". The absolute best comment? A little boy, 7 or 8, grabbed his dad and said "Daddy! He's wearing a kilt!!!" And his dad replied, "Yes, he is. Isn't it cool?"

Even saw another kilted gent out there after his run, walking his dog in Black Watch. It really was a great day to be kilted!

I almost made it out without The Question, but one young lady came up to me and asked... she looked horrified to actually be asking, so I think her boyfriend put her up to it.

I went to Nuit Blanche in Toronto last night (actually I just got home!). I ended up going solo as my friends were scared off by this afternoon's rain. There was no rain but it was pretty damn cold!

Anyway, I've NEVER had so many people comment on a kilt before. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 50 people said something - every one of them positive. Methinks I have to wear my Burnetts and Struth Maple Leaf tartan more often!

I tend to only wear my kilt on special occasions and recently at a christening service and party after I wore my kilt. I got stared at by a very young girl whose father explained that it was a kilt and worn by Scotsmen. His wife gave me a big smile. Most of the guests at the service and party looked fairly smart but I was the one who was complimented and thanked for making the biggest effort. In the main I get taken for granted as it is usual to see me kilted on these occasions.

Walking on my way home two little girls did giggle a bit.
