Rum. Lots of rum. If sniffing the glass does not clear your sinuses, add more rum.

I like mine with a bit Tullamore Dew i especially when it's cold and snowy like today.

Here's a really nice eggnog recipe, since we're on the topic. I made it in both the "unleaded" and "regular" varieties so it could be enjoyed by a wide range of folks. It is a "cooked" eggnog recipe for those who are put off by the idea of raw eggs.
I made some today to go with our Christmas ham and glazed carrots. It was fantastic. Since Japan does not sell eggnog in any store, we make our own from scratch, (which tastes far better in my opinion anyhow).
Eggnog Recipe
Ingredients:
------------
4 cups milk
2 cups whipping cream (unwhipped)
12 clove spikes
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
10 egg yolks
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups dark, Jamaican rum
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Directions:
----------
1. Take a good, healthy swig of rum prior to starting. Trust me.
2. Combine milk, cloves, vanilla, cinnamon in saucepan & gently heat for 5 minutes and slowly bring to a boil.
3. In a bowl, mix egg yolks and sugar. Whisk well, and with the heat on low (or off) slowly pour into the spiced milk while stirring.
4. Stir for 3 more minutes on low heat but do not let the mixture come to a boil.
5. Whip the whipping cream until it starts to get thick, but not so long that it becomes solid. You should still be able to pour it out.
6. Strain out the cloves from the mixture, and slowly pour in the cream while stirring well.
7. Divide mixture in half and pour into two serving vessels, carefully marking each as to whether it contains alcohol or not.
8. Let the eggnog cool.
9. To the spiked eggnog, add 1.5 cups dark, Jamaican rum (or other alcohol of your choice).
10. Sprinkle nutmeg on top prior to serving.
Additional note: The original recipe I used called for a 1/2 cup more sugar, and 2 more cups of cream. I altered it to my own personal liking. 1.5 cups sugar results in a very sweet eggnog. The wife liked it, but too much for my taste.

I will usually take my favorite brand of nog straight, but I'll add a splash of Jack Daniels to other brands to "fix" the taste.
