Gosh LeeAnne,
He's a male and your boyfriend. Surely, you know him by now!

Hi, LeeAnne – clearly your man is either being naughty or is daring you to do something outrageous.
Not that outrageous is necessarily wrong.
As Anne points out, short garments for women are a modern invention. So are underpants.
You are free to put on underpants or not to, as you feel appropriate.
I am perfectly happy to go regimental in my kilt, but you may feel at risk of exposure.
Certainly if you wore a longer skirt, nobody would know.
And if you wore a petticoat or two (with either kilt or long skirt) you would be that much better protected.
It’s your choice to go regimental or not to, to dump the guy or to play along with his playfulness.
Regarding the sporran, there is no law that forbids women from wearing it. But except where uniformity requires it (as in a pipe band) there is no reason why women should wear one. A man obviously does need to have one on. Suit yourself.
At any rate, I hope you have fun at the ceilidh!
Regards,
Mike

Started out with an English joke in Latin rephrased as a literal Latin question and a Spanish response??? -- Underwear under where? Je ne sais pas, mon ami! -- "Locura lo cura!" ["Madness cures it!" (Spanish)]

I don't blame you my friend. I'm an old English teacher, but I speak reasonable French, useable but atrocious German, and have studied Latin and Hebrew . . . but I do like articulate and proper English.

You could always get your own back by wearing petticoat britches under your kilt - lots of fine fabric, embroidery and lace.
They were all the rage here, in the seventeenth century before the restoration of the monarchy - according to Samuel Peyps, though for men, but that would not do these days.
You would need to beware - on a breezy crossroad a contrary wind ruffled my pleats and the sight of my lace edged petticoat distracted a driver so much he did not notice that the lights had changed and the car in front had stopped.

The term "Kilt" actually refers to the pleating. So as for a man or woman wearing one it doesn't matter. Though in my opinion the tradition of the kilt is a mans garment.
As for the wearing of something under? For both of you it's just easyer for some things.
