I have found that kilts show fewer signs of wear than other modern garments.
With some things such as the English smock you can expect ten years wear before they really need to have pieces renewed, but kilts don't seen to have weaknesses if made with sturdy foundations, to take the strain.
The oldest kilts I have - which were knife pleated but are now remade into Kingussie and reverse Kingussie, are lightweight materiasl which I don't wear in the Winter, but there are no signs of wear on them. They must be over 6 years old now, and Winter here is only about 8 weeks long. Any other garment in the same fabrics would have worn out long ago.

Only 8 weeks? Now I know where our winter disappears to, the few weeks it's not here
Thanks all for the info! The ebay link is VERY interesting. They have other, custom made kilts for (in comparison to normal) interesting prices. That might be very affordable for me! I'm really tempted to get a real Black Watch in a size that perfectly fits me but, contrary to planning, I became a dad again today (instead of in almost two weeks) so any funding I might have had are now reserved for him. Ty Kean took only a few hours, he was really in a hurry to get born! All's good, very quiet little lad. Not 24 hours old and lifting his head and looking around. Going to be a smartass...

Congratulations on the new arrival.
My offspring were the taking a look around sort too - made the midwives look and go 'Hmm' - smartass isn't the half of it I'm afraid.

Congrats to your brand new little Dutchman
When you are back into kilts, I can really recommend the customer service of tartan4less. I ordered my 16oz/ 8yd Grey Highlander -after getting excellent telephone support- yesterday (already altered to my correct drop length and incl. shipping for 149 GBP) and received information on delivery within 7 days only 20 min after sending payment.

My P/V kilts do pill - in the front where I wear my Nightstalker sporran. The Nylon material of the spooran causes this just like my shoulder bag. But this is only on the kilt I wear nearly every day.

Veels geluk, Sadkingbilly, met die aankoms van die nuweling. Sterkte aan die moeder.
You will have to get the little tyke an infant’s kilt – or would you rather wait until he can walk?
Regards,
Mike

I love it - why wait - kilt up, diaper off, ( mess off), diaper on and pick him up again.
Congradulations !

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Thanks all
Wekk, my wife actually told me (left me with my mouth wide open) that she thought a very young boy (who can, indeed, already walk) in a full casual kilt outfit would be very cute. Who knows, she might change her opinions after all ;)

Don't PV kilts need a little less cleaning than wool as they don't absorb anything that gets on them?

The beauty of a PV kilt is that if they do get dirty you can just toss them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. No need to go to the expense of a dry cleaner.
BTW the kilt showing in my avatar is my PV Celtic Nations kilt from USAK
