I'm kind of late getting into this but I have 2 reasons to wear a kilt...
1. Because it's there
2. Because I can...and I LIKE IT!
There are probably others but these are my 2 favorite.
I told my wife when I started to think about honoring my family (my Clan is Campbell on one side of the family and MacDonald on the other -((I have some INTERESTING conversations with myself over this!))...back to what I was writing. I told my wife that I spent the first 45 years of my life trying to fit in and not be notice and I decided that the last 45 years were going to be spent not giving a damn what someone else thought!
My 2 cents of advice would be to wear the kilt with pride and don't worry what others might say...they are probably wrong!
Now, pardon me...all this talk of liquid refreshment and nourishment have caused a spark of desire which MUST be quenched!

You most likely won't find anybody here to dispute that statement. (We're all politically correct anyway.LOL)

I get the feeling I shouldn't ask this, but what's an avatar????

It's that cute little picture or graphic underneath the users name. Instructions for adding one of your own are on the "Profile" page. My avatar is in the shop for servicing at the moment.LOL.

In answer to your question that's snow...Alittle over a week ago we had about 4 inches of snow in the Dallas area and my wife didn't think I'd wear the kilt on our Saturday outing. I told her a little snow and cold weather wouldn't stop me...it didn't. I was actually comfortable all day, even on a little walk with the 2 Scottish terrors we have! She was bundled up with 3 layers but to mis-quote a line from the film 'Miracle or 34th Street'...'...the cold makes it gorw better.'
I tell her I'm committed to the kilt...then she tells me I should be committed! Go figure...

Donnie,
It's called Paddy Doolins Irish Pub. It is
at 114 E. Main St. in Forest City. They
have good food too. We are trying to get up a
kilt night once a month. I'll let you know
when we get it going.

Norwegians & snow
I'd like to thank you all for your wisdom and acceptance of non-Scots wearing kilts. I've built up a small colection of kilts, although my heritage is primarily Norwegian (which is close to Scotland, right?)
As for unfavorable weather threatening your kilt nights, I think you should accept the threat as a challenge, at least once, and brave the miserable weather. I've done this many times in a wool kilt and didn't suffer much discomfort (of course, growing up in Montana probably built up my tolerance to cold). Still, even if you find yourself having a miserable night, it will be a good tale to tell the next day.

Welcom philbo,
I see you are in Bozeman, Montana. Do you know Lance (another member of this forum)?

As a matter of fact, Lance and I are old friends. He's the one who made me my first kilt.
