By the way, how's this for an "earthy" kilt look. ...
Matt: Thanks for the correction on the Strathmore colours. I see that their MacFarlane Hunting Old Colours looks the same to me as the Lochcarron Hunting Ancient. I have a kilt in the latter.
Nice outfit(s) in the pictures, though I would call that a "sylvan" or "woodsy" look. In fact I would call that first picture a "camo" look. I wouldn't have seen you at all if it weren't for that shiny kilt pin. You look like a bear in a tam. By the way, that's a great Ryan Ross pose.
I especially like your sweater, sporran, and shepherd's (?) hose.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Yes HOE's "muted" is a unique animal. Scarlet becomes a deep vivid claret (as opposed to the dusty claret of Reproduction), blue becomes a lovely Cobalt (as opposed to the cool grey of Reproduction).
It's so cool how you can have the same tartan in Modern, Ancient, Dalgliesh Reproduction, and HOE Muted, and many people won't recognize them as being the same tartan!
I used to work at a Highland Outfitter that carried HOE jackets, tartan, etc and a pastime was looking through all the HOE sample books. A couple of the Pipe Bands I played in wore HOE Muted kilts. So I'm a huge fan!
Here's Matt's excellent essay on all of this

Yep. Paired with a brownish tweed jacket with a bit of pattern, or a lot, depending on your tastes is a superb way to achieve that overall, "earthy" look. I think this look has been becoming more and more popular nowadays. I know I am DEFINITELY quite fond of it.
Cheers,
