Gentlemen, I read all of your interesting motivations for your kilt wearing. Me I have no connection with Scotland, nor have I family roots going back to that part of the world. However, the kilt is a garment which I have in my mind since so many years. Men in kilt got always my full attention. Why? Honestly, I couldn't say. I accepted however that a man in my country was not supposed to wear anything else than trousers. Period!Being retired now and thus having more free time, late last summer I was on a walk through Bruges and saw coming out of a restaurant some very fine gentlemen with their spouses and they were wearing such beautiful kilts, and hose, and jackets.... I really couldn't take my eyes of them. I even followed them for a while. Why could they... and I not? Coming home I told this to my wife. She let me understand that, if I had a similar desire, she wouldn't oppose. As from then everything went very quickly and, to shorten this too long story: I wear the kilt with joy as often as possible (minimum twice a week) and I go out with pleasure and proud (although stupidly I still feel some inner anxiety).
Purchasing kilts was a very yielding investment (although rather expensive!!).
I’m convinced I couldn't miss it anymore. A pity I had to wait so long before I allowed myself the joy of being kilted. So is this a sensible reason why I wear the kilt? No! In my case everything in based on unexplainable feelings.

Sometimes feels like wearing the family tree around ones waist ! Great to see kilt wearing getting more popular , it is a manly attire and very very comfy .Seems to be clothing for the alpha male I think LOL . As for black people wearing the kilt , I believe that in Jamaica the surname Grant is very common , so welcome aboard .

I have really enjoyed reading everyones stories on this thread; so many varied and wonderful stories. The one commonality we all have though is that no matter what our motivation or reasons, we all love wearing kilts.
With regards to the my West Indian background, my surname is Rockhead which definitely has no links to Scotland (as far as I know). I actually go into more detail about my ancestral search on the History & Heritage forum on here. If you're interested in reading it (and my surprising discovery) copy and past this link

I think this is a extremely good reason. Especially because it is my reason too.
I lived in Scotland for a few months but everything else on the spot (not the age).

I got my first kilt about 18 months ago, I am english but do have Celtic ancestory. The main reason is they look great.
Since then I have ended up buying at least 6 more and at the moment wear one everyday instead of trousers. I am not allowed to advertise my blog but if anyone is interested in following my adventure, please message me and I will send you a link.
I will agree that wearing a kilt does not seem to garner any negative comments, I have noticed that people do smile at me a lot more. I think that a black man, with dreads wearing a kilt is brilliant, I have a shaved head, tattoos and a beard so do understand that sometimes, looks can be somewhat intimidating. Keep wearing and have fun.
