Prefer to press on as is thanks.
"1) damn the torpedos and press on as planned, especially knowing that with each additional order the per-person 'start up' cost drops."
The wallet will pay for what the heart wants.
And again thanks for sheparding this order.

How sad. When a company's products or price falters, you worry a bit - but when excellent customer service declines, you truly mourn because its rare that will ever be back.
This will drastically effect the amount I'm able to order, if I'm able to at all. We were already straining my heart/wallet relationship to begin with - And I'm sure there are many in the same boat.
Any way that you go about it, this seems like a "back to the drawing board" type of change. Maybe redo the color voting with stock colors.
And who knows, maybe this will allow more people to get involved, as they become more aware of it & have more time to save. If you need any help doing this legwork, let us know. I appreciate the work you've done so far, but I'm sure all of us don't want this to turn into a burden for you, Scott.

I've just made enquiries with Marton Mills regarding the possibility of ordering the original colours in either 16oz wool or PV, just to get all of our options on the table.
If we can simply shunt the order over to them and still get the proper colours without the big upcharge for setup and dyeing we might still have a go,
otherwise I tend to agree that we'll have to go back to the drawing board, probably with a new vote based on the new information.

If nobody dropped out I could reluctantly commit to damning the torpedoes and continuing as planned... but (Pending Marton Mills' response) I'm inclined to opt for #2, stock colors.

Their newest price list has no discount for volume, so the price is £25/$40 yd/dw, not a total deal breaker, BUT
£114 "set up" for custom sett - this is not a huge deal, as right now with 17 people on the order it would only boil down to ~£6.7/person ($10US),
the BIG issue is the following (which is not waived, no matter the yardage- I just got a reply back from Dalgliesh)
£100/per custom colour! Given that the original colour way had 3 custom colours we'd be looking at £300 + the £114, or roughly £24/$39 per person before any yardage.
I'm sorry to throw a spanner into the works at this stage of the game, I know that this may effect some people's participation in the order.
In light of this new information I'd say we have just a few options-
1) damn the torpedos and press on as planned, especially knowing that with each additional order the per-person 'start up' cost drops.
2) Stick with Dalgliesh but change the colours to stock, which would in effect give us a more 'modern' palette. The below image was generated using the Scotweb "weaver's" colours, which are considered stock
Attachment 11990
3) we attempt to pursue the original colour way with another mill (probably Marton Mills)
What do we think, gang? Option 1, 2, or 3? With either option 2 or 3 I'll probably lock this thread down and start again.
Again, my apologies to all that this new information arrived this late in the game.
ith:
Am down with all three options. Although anything to shave cost would be primo. So, damn the torpedoes and proceed on.

Option 1 for me, but appreciate that it may have to go another way. Thanks for the work, sorry for the heartache, and good luck with the rest!

I am debating if I need another yard. What is the sett size. I only used 6 yards of the xmarks tartan but the purple stripe is every is only every other green stripe, correct?
I don't always wear a kilt, but when I do, I've made it myself.

Very frusterating and a little incredible that there is no volume discount. I vote for #3 and see if Marton Mills would be an option. They have a quality product.

The original sett ended up right around 8.5", the triple purple stripe is 'every other' green because there's actually the deep 'colour out of space' in between the other two green stripes.

They do indeed do a nice product (I have a kilt in Dalgliesh and one in MM to compare), and thanks to some very helpful info from Paul Henry it's looking like MM would be a very good alternative.
The pricing would be a LOT MORE attractive, especially if we can hit 70m, the only issue is that we'd most likely have to take delivery all in one go and break it here, since MM is more of a volume producer.
Sorry to all again for this blasted bump in the road-
