Precisely because knife pleating has clearly become the standard of highland garb--- save the very special Army "box pleats" (e.g. A&S)--- older forms that have been integrated within woman's fashion have been abandoned. They are widely considered except by experts and fashion historians (incorrectly) as skirt inspired. Its especially this "skirty" look, I could imagine, that draws ones line--- one way or the other.
Hello Nanook,I am fairly well aquainted with the Army box pleat (take note of where I live) and I have tried to take a fair view on the civilian(same as the army ones,I think) box pleats that I have seen on this website, although I have to confess that I have not seen a civilian box pleated kilt for real.As I say,for me, knife pleats are the ones.I have,by the way, never noticed what kind of pleats women have in their skirts!
