I just can't see wasting too much emotion on some stranger I'll never see again.

Somebody I'll see more often, well, maybe.

Not a woman, not for that.

    But that's me.

What is it they say about people and how much they think they know? The more ignorant you are in a subject, the more likely you are to overinflate the little knowledge you have...
She'd seen a haggis before, so she could spot a fake scotsman a mile away.
As for the German ladies, I must get to an airport immediately. I need a new German conversation partner after all...

Arlen, that's pretty funny, you gotta admit. C'mon, even I had trouble understanding your accent and here she is claiming that it's fake! Hahaha, what a dumb b!@^(#.

That being said, I think you should turn in your Ancient Grant kilt, seeing as how you have no right to wear it EVER, and get a proper MacDonald...maybe that lady can point you to the vendor where her brother got his kilt?

my airport issues are usually with American ladies who get a little too friendly
I think its a culture thing, that many American ladies are brought up to be much more outgoing and friendly than us dour Scots. A kilt attracts them like a magnet. While sitting alone in a near empty motorway service station waiting for Ann to return to the table a middle aged American lady came over and sat right at my shoulder. Politely I said would you like to sit at this table and when she replied with a very enthusiastic "Yeah", I moved to the next table. No offence intended to the lady; I just wanted a bit of defensive space for Ann and I, but she certainly took offence. That lady didn't half glower and stare at us while we drank our coffee. If looks could kill. I think yours was probably the same and intended to strike up a friendly conversation and felt rebuffed when you said you were not of her clan and so went on the offensive. I tend to be more shy and would never identify a stranger's tartan as a conversation starter unless I was really confident that I knew the tartan and that I saw some hint of initial welcome from the stranger, such as a smile.

"At this she took great offense and accused me of trying to steal the Grant tartan and pretending to be Scottish when I obviously have a fake accent."

That line cracked me up! Did she not approve of the Weedgie accent? Lol. Take it as a good story to tell down the pub :-)

friendly greeting from the other coast,

    Suse
