Okay, okay,.........enough of the retro rabble babble, let's get back to the point............what about the two women taking McMurdo's pants off?!!!

McMurdo, why were two women wearing your pants?

Hmmmm . . . that's the watch I carry: a Hamilton 4992B Navigation Master with a 24-hour face. It was used during World War Two for time and distance navigation. Since I'm an air traffic controller and deal with time as part of my job everyday, I like accurate timepieces and especially this one since it is related to aviation.
Older pocket watches often have balance wheel staffs that are easily broken from shocks like a small drop or banging the watch against a table. Newer mechanical pocket watches will have the staff mounted in a manner that can absorb some force before breaking. I carry a Tissot wind-up pocket watch in my sporran or my Hamilton in a dedicated pants pocket. I'm going to make a leather carrying case for the Hamilton so I can wear it with my kilts too.
I don't have a Hamilton pocket watch just for the sake of retro. I've carried mine for about 20 years because I find wrist watches uncomfortable. Since I've chosen a pocket watch, I thought it would be nice to have something I admired for it's precision, construction, and it's place in history.

I just might have to look into getting myself a packet watch. I notice WalMart has several inexpensive ones with leather covers.
Though I must admit, I wish they still had wind-ups or automatic pocket watches. I've gotten so tired of changing batteries, I finally moved to solar or kinetic wrist watches. Of course I do still have my 1968 Automatic Seiko Navigator - problem is I have to adjust the time every month or so.

owing to a recent burglary I no longer have my 1926 Waltham with it's exquisite Maximus movement... but it will be replaced. As far as modern stem-winders are concerned any decent jeweler should be able to order one for you. prices vary, but I'd expect to pay something in the region of $100-150 for a really good pocket watch in a stainless steel case. Move up to gold and it'll cost more than a wee bit more...

I'm glad to see this thread! I like to switch off my wrist watch to a pocket when I pipe. On such occasions, I'm wearing the waistcoat that goes with the Argyll jacket. This is common wear among pipe bands and soloists. But, I like to wear the pocket sometimes when I wear jeans because of the watch pocket. But, sometimes, I want to wear my pocket watch when I don't have either; so, I'm happy to see that there are these belt pouches!

That is lovely...I hope that it's a good, manly large size. Seems like watches are so small lately.

Pocket watch holder
This thread inspired me to go out into the workshop and try to make a pocket watch holder that would attach to a kilt belt. Here is what I came up with.

Pretty basic, but it will do the job.
Cheers
