Nigel WELCOME from Kent WA. Iwish I had started wearing a Kilt @ your age. Being a father, I can think of a LOT of items of apperal that I resist seeing on my children ( now in their 20s) than a Kilt.

Here is something you might "blow by your Dad. Here in Seattle, these are VERY popular & practical.

    Nigel,
Welcome from just up the road about 60 miles, in Salem!
I just picked up my first "starter" kilt, a SWK "Thrifty" Black Watch. Very comfortable.
The right price to start getting used to how it feels.... which is indeed comfortable.
I like the dark Black Watch with a black t-shirt (or maybe sweatshirt today, as it's SNOWING out the window at this moment!). Keep us posted on your progress!

    Hi all!

Sorry I haven't been able to respond - I've been otherwise busy to not be able to check my internet stuff. Should be regular now though.

Thanks for the Utilikilts tip, but I dislike the apron size and pockets. Cargo pockets look...silly, in my opinion. Nothing against them, but not my style.

Coinneach: a work arrangement to live on both sides of the country? Just wondering as to why you have two locations.

Thanks for the welcomes from England. I've always wanted to go, and several people I know have. They tell me it's great there.

    Welcome from Heidelberg Germany!
To convince your dad to let you wear a kilt, I would first show him pictures of people in kilts so he can see that they aren't a costume and can look good. Here are links to a bunch of pics

If that doesn't work, remind him that you could be wanting to wear teen fashion that has little to no redeeming value such as huge baggy hang off your rear pants, gang colors, or extreme hair colors or styles. The kilt while different and not the norm has a long distinguished history and has been worn by numerous famous and important people over the years. Good luck in your efforts and let us know how things turn out.

    From the Mts. of Utah

The SWK standards are quite warm but if you want to go for real warm at not to much money their heavy wool is real warm. Lots of input but if you can afford the standard go for it and---
