I'd just ask the stock boy right out: Are you REALLY this ignorant, prejudiced and close minded? What would posess you to even BEGIN to think that I would want to hear your negative and COMPLETELY misinformed opinion on the way I dress?
I like the other response Nighthawk said: "Show me one passage where it said Jesus wore pants". That should shut him up. If not, then ask if he thinks Jesus was a cross dresser b/c he DIDN'T wear pants.

it's just so much FUN to mess with them!
Yes, this is true, but not in the middle of a grocery store where people are trying to shop in peace.

And don't need to cram my opinions down someone else throat. Last time I looked, it was a Free Universe. Invading someone else's privacy (uninvited) to comment on their clothing is totally offensive.
But you can't tell them anything.

I was waiting while my wife was trying on clothes and this weirdo sat down beside me and wanted to tell me all about Jesus. He wasn't at all happy when I told him I have my own private beliefs and preferred that he do the same. It's the ones that come to your door though. I told them once I was a committed churchgoer but I believed the people next door were not. You never saw people scuttle round there so fast in your life! I didn't really get on with those neighbours anyway.

99% of the time it is done in total ignorance of what the passage really means. (It actually refers to Transvestite 'Priests' of several ancient deities with whom the Israelites had disapproving contact). More applicable to finding you in a pink frilly ball gown & red pumps.
It was certainly not referring to (Male) Kilts, Sarongs, Lava-Lavas, Graeco-Roman tunics or Togas, or Israelite robes at all. What a moron!

Nice to see a man of the cloth espousing common sense. The ones the typical person encounters isn't so, for lack of a better word, sensical.

The unfortunate truth. Fortunately, I've been blessed to meet in my church mainly category three Christians (ever notice that it's the category one and two's that start the schisms?).

I do like the idea of pretending to not speak English!
I've done this before, with the express purpose of messing with someone (all in good humour, of course).

When people ask why I'm wearing the kilt, one of my favourite responses is "For religious reasons; Jesus never wore pants." Usually keeps the antagonistic quite, and gets a laugh from the others.

When well intentioned but misguided people ask me if I've found Jesus, I go the Forrest Gump direction: "Didn't know I lost him."

I could not agree more. I had some Jehova's Witnesses come to my door a few weeks ago. I asked if they wanted to try a religious exchange- mine for theirs- for a month. I thought it sounded reasonable. If they want me to try theirs out, why shouldn't I make them the same offer? Didn't go over so well... and I didn't manage to pawn off one of my kittens on them, either.
Are you a Jesuit by any chance? I went to a Jesuit high school and you remind me a lot of Fathers Harrison and Burschek. What great people they are.

I've not had that experience yet but have anticipated it. My prepared response is that the kilt is part of the uniform of the Church militant then spout the many verses in Psalms relating to God's love and care for warriors. I suppose if they get to obnoxious I can remind them that I tend to be Ecclesiastical in my outlook. I have said that before and the point got across that I didn't care to be messed with. Of course, that depends on them knowing their Bible well enough to know what I mean.
Ozman, there needs to be more Padres like you.

I'm not a religious person, so I have an insulting response when some one comes at me with some religious nonsense.
It usually involves comparing Jesus to David Koresh. That usually gets them thinking enough for me to walk away, feeling good about myself.
I won't repeat it here, since I do not want to insult the nice religious people on the board.
