If you wear a tux shirt and bow tie without a jacket, people will think you are a waiter. (Not that there is anything wrong with being a waiter, but you don't want to dress like one at an even where you are a guest or a host.) You can find Eton jackets here for less than $40 http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ap...ojackets4.html I have never bought one but at those prices I don't know how good the quality is. Nonetheless, they should last though several years, depending on how many black tie events you go to. That site also has pique vests and tie in both black and white for formal wear, and jackets with tails that could be altered to wear with a kilt.
