I don't know...my wife and I went to a Trek party in costume and had a very merry time when we got home...but that was long ago...or at least it seems like it was long ago...
But I digress...donning the kilt hasn't had any romantic dividends for me at home but at least my wife deals with my wearing it...it seems like MK9 is just hoping for that state of affairs. As several posters have said, the kilt is maybe the most confidence inspiring garment that a guy can wear but ya gottta have the confidence to wear it with panache (no reference intended) for it to work. Sort of a chicken and the egg problem, n'est ce pas?
But, as Red Green says, "Don't worry, we're pullin' for ya. Remember, we're all in this together."

My next Kilt is gonna be more traditional...for sure.
I'm a Holmes so I can wear Kennedy or Ayrshire...or one of the more generic tartans. I rather like the Texas Bluebonnet Tartan. For now I want to stay semi traditional and not wear a solid colored kilt.
I'm sure my wife will have to work this through herowndamnself....we went to lunch today, but I had changed to shorts.

Sage advice for everyday, I'd say!

That is a beautiful tartan, you could do a lot worse.

Just to clarify, semantics aside, what I said was just my opinion, as one woman, I don't speak for all women, a kilt is a man's garment, it looks good on men-I've never seen a kilt look bad on a man who was wearing it correctly-and it looks good whether it has the whole backside pleated or box pleated or not pleated at all. A woman can wear a kilt, yes, but a man cannot, or should I perhaps say should not, wear a skirt. Completely different garment.
I'm just very sorry your wife does not go along with your choice to wear the kilt...maybe she will one day.

My Girlfriend (who is English) gets put out if I don't wear a kilt.
It thoroughly amazes me the reactions some people get from their significant others on this matter.
You should wear it anyway.
What would her reaction be if you told her you wouldn't be seen with her if she went out wearing trousers as they are "a mans garment"?
Not good I'll bet.
It's a hypocritical double standard.

Well, since this is your wife and not a friend, I'm not going to tell you not to care and just do it anyways. I think you should keep trying, but don't push it, that makes it even worse. In my own experience (not wife though) if you keep pushing it, it just ticks the person off. Subtle hints...I find that girls/women get that. good luck and don't take in everything I say.

A kilt is no more womens' wear than a pair of blue jeans. Either gender can wear them but there tends to be a world of difference in style, fit and overall look.
Not true. If you change the style, fit and overall look of a kilt, then it's not a kilt. The rules of how a kilt fits and is made doesn't change when it's a woman wearing it.
Anyway, I love my kilt. I'd wear it all the time if I could. Maybe you need to get her one? If you think the swish of the pleats makes a man good to look at, it goes double for a woman.
Best of luck!

At one time shorts were pretty advanced attire for mature males - long trousers being the only appropriate garb. Also there were those who went nuts about Sikhs wearing turbans and women wearing head scarves. Not unusual seeing women and men in their pajama like outfits in a cosmopolitan city like Toronto. Those with problems with what people wear just have to get used to it.
