Have heard two different versions - Rothsea and Rothsay in both cases the "e" is silent.

Best,

i`d say it as "Rawth-say"
i gather though folks from other parts of scotland might say it different depending on regional accents

The Queen Mother's maiden name was Bowes-Lyon.
Rothesay I have always pronounced Roth-say, with a very soft th sound.

Gents
Can we please ensure this topic does not continue about the monarchy and whether or not the Queen should or should not abdicate? This thread was started primarily because others have noticed and commented on the fact that the Prince certainly knows how to wear highland dress. I would hate to close this thread, as many have already noted what an enjoyable thread it's been.

I'm sure castledangerous was simply making very light hearted, off handed comment which was based strictly on the Duke's excellent taste in clothes.
Personally, I am looking for more tweed jackets to remake into kilt jackets like the Duke's. He just looks to darned good in all the outfits we see here.

I wonder if he has a cilt in the St David's tartan - what a boost that would be for cilt wearing in Wales if he wore it here!
