I just found out these come with a 3" gusset; but, no internal divisions are standard... $55 is pretty tempting nonetheless. She'll do custom work, too, apparently; but, only seasonally (October is her earliest production cycle).

I guess I need to work on getting some 'fancier' sporrans! Mine are pretty basic...

My first, a cheap 'hunting sporran' from Sportkilt, I banged the harp badge in it. I also got a more useful basic 3 tassel job from SK, but later gave it to my Dad. But I used this one for formal stuff for years.

My 3rd, a $9 Ebay "Irish Sporran" I used to use this a lot, but now it only gets out around March, or as part of my Victorian outfit for Dickens weekend.

Stillwater Kilts Leather Nightstalker, the most useful casual sporran ever! I use it all the time, had to take it off for the picure!

Two Buzz Kidders, 'Ribbed' and 'Celtic Weave' from daywear to dressy to the Renfair, these see a lot of use too. Kidders are roomy, great quality, and hard to beat for about 60 bucks!

Lastly, my latest, a Grey Rabbit dress sporran from Stillwater, for the 2 or 3 formal events I might attend per year. Nice sporran, reasonable price and good quality.

I have one nearly identical made by an acquaintance in North Carolina, but it's not from this vendor. It's a very handy, useful and casual sporran, and i recommend such for day wear.

Though I have several, I stick mostly to about three basic models:
#This is very useful although not particularly roomy. It is a basic military style in brown I use for day wear. It has a matching strap


#This is another "dressier" model I use for day wear when wearing a tweed jacket or tie. It looks prettry "dressy" without being over bearing.


#For black tie/evening dress, I get down right gaudy with this little number I bought at Grandfather Mountain about 10 or 12 years ago.


I probably would purchase something a bit less flashy if I had it to do over today, maybe a darker fur. But I must say that for full dress up, I do like the white fur.

I have other sporrans, like the black elk hide with a Donnachaidh crest that has lots of room, and the one like #2 above with a chrome cantle. But I have definitely moved away from almost anything that is overly ostentatious; it seems to me that less is always more and that a gentleman should not overdo with bright colors and shiny things--except when dressing or evening, and then it's lace, silver, and lots of shine!

To your question: as it was said before, take your time and think it over. None of my sporrans are particularly expensive, but they serve the purpose and look good--I think. I would recommend that you analyze your finances and the likely events to which you will be wearing them.

If you will not likely be at black tie/formal events, don't waste your money on fur unless it's an all-purpose mask sporran that is a sporran for all seasons. But if you will be at dressy functions, then get a good, serviceable brown leather sporran for day wear and a nice fur for the evening. You don't have to break the bank, but a decent fur sporran will be pricey.

This is my daywear sporran and I really, really love it. I personally like very simple and unfussy sporrans which is why my formal wear sporran has a completely plain cantle. Which is why I love this design - simple, elegant, contempory with a traditional air



It's from a company called Sporran Nation based in Inverness and the girl that makes them couldn't be nicer!
