I can get Famous Grouse for about $20 at the grocers down the street. Another house favorite (mainly availability and convenience) is Johnny Black, at about $50 for a 1.5L. I can get Balvenie Double Wood at Costco for less than $50/bottle, and this is a good deal, IMO.

I am inclined to agree. I once had a gent stand me to a dram on what can only be described as a dreich and drear sart o day and it was the best moofie of malt I had ever had to that point.

I read a recent article{back number of Yachting Mag.) on some high end whisky tour of the Islands and the terms used to describe the products tasted...... terms like,"hints of kelp" and "an undercurrent of tar" not to mention the inevitable "pleasantly peaty"

    My my...
What ever your whiskey....enjoy and share with those you love ....cheers!

No one has mentioned the Dalmore so I will. It's a very good highland single malt and I've usually been able to find it for under $30 and sometimes for as little as $24.
