Re: Hunting & Dress MacLean pix

I also never understood the "proper highland attire" argument. No, you don't want someone walking around in a kilt looking like a bum, but it was created as a utilitarian garment. Just about everything in highland attire was designed for a purpose, not fashion. Kilts and other highland attire did not catch on until "highlandism" spread much later in history as a form of Scottish nationalism. Until that period it was regarded as the "dress of thieves". I cannot remembered who said that, but I can give it later if someone wants to dispute that. It was said in regard to English royalty wanting to be kilted for a Highland presentation. In my humble opinion you should wear it proudly, with honor of your ancestry, and leave the fashion dos and don'ts to annoying television shows.

Or, you could go to a ball game in full tails and top hat. But why?
    AH THE FASHION POLICE.
Or are you offering to buy my clothes now?
Please, I ask you to show me the legal documents that say I cant wear my kilt in MacLean tartan (red or green) any where I chose.

    Sanx so much.
It seems to me that a lot of this thread is nothing more than eliteism & kilt snobbery. Neither of which has any place in society or in any other forum.

    Is that the modern?
I think Im leanin toward the weathered/muted tone.
The red is the modern, yes. It's pretty "in your face" but then again, so am I! My first kilt was the MacLean hunting. It still looks and wears great after years of wear.

The weathered Duart looks grand; wear it with pride.

Don't sweat those who'd tell you what or how to dress here. You wouldn't ask advice on how to wear a pair of jeans (which can be replaced by a kilt quite nicely!)

Take it as a compliment. In Scandinavian mythology trolls were a fearsome adversary. We are a Norse-Gaelic clan anyway. Trolls of the Highlands!
