As a Philadelphia native, I know you kind of have to grow up with the Mummers to really appreciate them. You have to admit, it was entertaining, for lack of a better word.
I'm a little late to this thread but as a former Philadeliphia resident you have to love the Mummers Parade. I was in the comics div. in my day and it was the most fun you could have. Loved the clip and I miss it very much.

I remember marching in the Mummers Parade many times and freezing my butt off. I was in the Wildwood String Band on Tenor Sax. Lots of pride to march in that parade.

Here's a video from our performance in 1984. We were in the tradition category though. This is what a Mummer is supposed to look like. I'm in there somewhere playing sax.

And the choreography--intricate steps and combinations while playing! Wow. The Mummers Parade is always a good show when you can catch it on the tube (never been to Philly in person). I watched it through, twice. The tunes were bit Broadway-arranged, but you could tell there was: Devil Among the Tailors, Scotland the Brave, Highland Cathedral and the Campbells Are Coming, among others. Seven minutes of quality work and they smiled throughout. I really enjoyed it.
I agree. I'd never heard of the Mummers' Parade before, but I found this to be very entertaining.

My husband and I used to go to Philly every New Years' to visit family. One year we all got caught in Mummers traffic and couldn't walk back to their house. We ended up passing the afternoon watching the festivities from teh bar in the Four Seasons. It was the most delightful and fun afternoon. Go Mummers!!
Yes, we'd leave Southern California for the fantastic East coast winter weather. Is that odd?

Did those "kilts" have hoops? If you're going to post it, you gotta explain it, b/c I don't get it.

Some of those kilts should be 'Tartan of the Month'!
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.
