Re: Where do wear like the lower edge of the kilt

Sorry I missed you! I had on a Black Watch (mercenaries that my ancestors were) and a black tee shirt. I did wear a hoodie at times if I was cold.

    Keep in touch!

It does take some getting used to for people who've worn bifurcated garments all their lives, and at first it feels weird to have the waist that high and you just KNOW it has to look ridiculous too.

But it doesn't, really. I generally wear mine a teeny bit higher than yours but still lower than Rocky's recommendation, at about one inch and a smidgen above the navel. It's just enough that no shirt fabric shows at the waist if I'm "going native" and wearing a waistcoat & argyle jacket.

I do think your pic looks just fine, by the way!

Dale, I appreciate the comments. I think we're all on the same page. Wear it where it feels best! I like that......

I bought my first kilt 35 months ago, wearing it at waist (navel) level seemed strange a first. It has become very comfortable and now I wear it above my navel and it feels very comfortable and natural. The more you wear the kilt, the more it will feel natural.

Now when I wear p@n+$ and $h0r+$, they feel strange and uncomfortable for me.

Just above the knee. It shows a bit of skin between the hose and kilt.
For others, it is how ever they like. But I will be remind them that the pleats go in the back.

Well, no, having worn a kilt in a regiment (and seeing everyone else in the regiment doing it properly) it was not ridiculous to me, but my wife still feels she has to ridicule me when I put a kilt on.
    1. She’s not wearing it.
    2. Who made her an expert on the subject?

Re: Where do wear like the lower edge of the kilt

I checked "top of the kneecap" but actually I usually wear the kilt somewhere between the top and middle of the kneecap, for which there was no poll option.

I've a huge collection of vintage kilt photos and also many images covering the history of Highland Dress and it's remarkable how stable, in general, kilt length has been.

In the 18th century it was at or just above the top of the kneecap

and in the 19th century, early

    mid

and up into the mid-20th century

But at least in the Pipe Band scene there's an unfortunate trend of wearing kilts too low, especially amongst drummers.

Here SFU's kilts look OK, around mid-kneecap

but here, with Spirit of Scotland, where are the knees?

A smidge above the kneecap - no shorter, no longer.

    Cheers,
