    Two matching pieces , perhaps arm rest covers from an arm chair and the holes cigar ash burns ? ( or burns from some smoking product , lighting a pipe etc. )

    Here's the other piece. I'm not sure why you're all so fixated on its later use. The origins are far, far more interesting and important! So what can you tell now?
