I recently read John Prebble's classic Culloden in order to balance any starry view of the Highlands I might of been getting from Walter Scott.
He's highly critical of the tartan industry that sprang up in the wake of Scott and George IV's visit to Edinburgh. He doesn't like royalty in any shape or form.

I've just finished reading the third in the Hornblower series (Hornblower and the Hotspur) and I'm in the middle of listening to the third of the Aubrey-Maturin series (HMS Surprise). To clear my mind from early 19th century ships of the line, I'm reading Sayers' The Five Red Herrings, set in Galloway.

Finished the other books that I listed.. so I started a few new ones.. I'm about 60% through "Life of Pi" at this moment.. not terribly impressed with it but plan on finishing it.. and I've got "The Birth Order" by Kevin Leman waiting in the wings. Also thinking about re-reading "The Hunger Games" trilogy once I'm done with Life of Pi.

Just finished David Macinnis Gill’s "Black Hole Sun". It's a young adult science fiction book set on Mars. Quick read. Character development was a bit shallow. Can't complain since it was a Free Friday Nook e-book.
Next I'll probably plow my way through William Gibson's books. For some reason I never got around to reading his work. I'm also overdue to re-read my favorite Heinlein juveniles: Rocket Ship Galileo, The Rolling Stones, Starship Troopers.

I just finished "A Sicilian Romance" by Ann Radcliffe, and am now reading Clara Reeve's "The Old English Baron".
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
