As the OP I think I have some rights and privledges here. I have watched with some concern as my thread has taken us in directions I never expected or intended. My original post was intended to thank the moderators for a little more freedom but express my disappointment that discussion of hunting, which I consider a very peaceful, natural, healthy and traditional activity still will be banned. I really don't want to be resposible for an exteded debate on gun control. I have opinions on this subject but don't see them as relevant to a kilt forum.

All I said was if I did choose to go hunting in my kilt I would like to be able to comment on that and exchage that experiece with others of a similar mind. One of my great dreams (bucket list if you will) would be to go grouse shooting in Scotland. If I ever managed to make it happen I would certainly wear my kilt (even if it irritated Jock ). If I am able to make this happen I would like to share the day with my friends on this forum without feeling like I am a criminal.

However, I have no desire to advise other individuals or nations how to control gun crime on a forum dedicated to kilt wearing.

If we can get back closer to my initial cocerns i would like to continue the discussion. If we can not I will ask it be closed and you can start your own thread which I doubt I will participate in.

Which is exactly why Rule #11 exists. And why it won't go away anytime soon.

On that note: if anyone wants to discuss the topics which we will continue to insist that they not be discussed here, it has been mentioned before and I shall remind everyone again. There are at least TWO other kilt-related discussion sites where you can post hunting stories/photos, and discuss the perfectly legal activity of carrying concealed firearms to your heart's content. These are surely more appropriate venues to air such questions and discussions. Rather than continuing to bemoan something that this forum is not, nor will be, it may be best to explore such alternative options.

XMarks will never be all things to all people. Why do we allow discussion of LEGAL, non-kilted activities (like drinking), and not others? Do we really need to have a reason? It's no less legal to discuss religion and politics, or ask for medical and legal advice, all of which are also disallowed here, all for sound reasons. It's your right to disagree with those reasons, but each of the rules on this site have been written based on not only the person experiences of the owner and moderators, but also the unique dynamics and interactions that are particular to THIS online community. This is precisely why you CAN discuss guns on another kilt forum and not here. Because the social dynamics are different. And that's fine. Neither one is superior to the other because of what they allow or prohibit. Just different.

The change in Rule #11 and the new sub-forum were made expressly for the purpose for allowing the discussion and photos of kilt-related weapons, as would be the case of historical arms or those used by kilted regiments. Nothing more. In fact, I hesitate to even call this a change in rules or policy, but rather a clarification. The concern we, the mods, were trying to address wasn't whether we should allow hunting photos and concealed carry topic, but how to deal with the way Rule 11 was being implemented.
