I was checking the web. It appears there is a fad in punk and goth that includes longer kilts as you described. http://www.gothicgarden.co.uk/Gothic...Mens-Long-Kilt

    >>>Well said. For that matter you COULD have chosen an actual skirt if that were what you wanted.
    >>>Strange in this day, you may actually get less questions if you wore a real skirt and makeup rather than a kilt...... do you think?

It is interesting that you should raise that question. I know in recent years that there has been a movement for men to wear skirts, and there has been some fashion designers that have tested the waters in that area. Whether these men would prefer to wear a real skirt and apply makeup or not is their choice. There shouldn't be a problem with that. Culture and society may object, but recent history is displaying changes in acceptance.
For example, based on my experience, in the 1950's and early to mid 1960's, women were expected to be seen in public wearing dresses or skirts, the wearing of pants was looked down upon. However, there were exceptions to this rule based on the weather and yard/gardening work. I remember a dress code being applied at schools at the time, to both boys and girls. This all changed in the late 1960's and 1970's. Now, it is accepted for women, young and old, to wear some kind of two leg garment, be it shorts or jeans.
Just the other day, at our 4th of July parade, there was a young fellow watching the parade and having a good time while wearing a green and while tartan pattern. I was wearing my black Utility-kilt near by. At first glance, I thought he was wearing a long kilt, well over the knees. But then I noticed there were no pleats, and I realized that this young man was wearing a skirt. Perhaps, it will be up to his generation to make men wearing skirts acceptable. In the meantime, I continue wear my kilts. Besides, it has taken some time for my wife to accept my kilt wearing, the skirt thing is another issue for her.

    Thanks

While this is veering close to a violation of rule #9, I would say that I see far more cross-dressers than men in kilts (to be fair, I generally only see men in kilts when I look in the mirror).

I meant no insult to cross dressers. Only seeking to stir the pot to keep interesting chat ABOUT kilts going. Given that men in kilts DO recieve insult and criticism.

The more I go out the better I feel in a kilt im new to kilts realy only been in them for a couple of months now . But I have quight a few now and I put one on almost every time I go out now especially if im out for the day or for a good few hours going some were.

I like the way it feels and the way it makes me feel when I have it on . I like the attention it gets and that people I don't know come over and talk to me because of it . I like the fact that it makes people smile to see me in it and it really does, its fun thing and looks good.

I have yet to see any one elce in a kilt and im unlikely to do so ether as ive only ever seen 2 kilts out side of weddings ever.

reading some comments ive seen about what to were or not with a kilt id say were what ever you like. To the bloke who whants to were a military hat with your kilt go for it I were an Australian cowboy hat with my kilt, I like it don't let any one tell you what you and cant put on.

I'm pretty new to kilt wearing, but one of the main reasons I have started to wear my kilt(s) is because I have seen quite a few guys wearing them around town. I remember about a year ago I needed my heater fixed in my office and the guy walked in wearing a kilt. I thought is was the coolest thing ever. When I started talking to some of my friends about it, I found that a lot of them had kilts and would wear then around town. So I started paying more attention to people and, sure enough, I see someone in a kilt a couple times a week. Maybe it's a laid back Western America thing or just a Flagstaff Arizona thing, but I like it.

I have read a lot of the posts here and I can relate to, and agree with, most of the comments, so I thought I would throw my two cents in as a newbie. I think the kilt we wear should match the activities we are doing. Just like my non-kilt clothes do. For instance, I wouldn't go to the local hardware store and buy a bunch of wood wearing formal clothing. I wouldn't wear it because it just doesn't make sense. I would wear blue jeans or a utility kilt because that does make sense.

All-in-all, I believe the kilt, like other clothing, can have some pretty strong feelings that go along with it. When I wear my kilt I feel a great sense of pride in my Scottish heritage. But I also feel a great sense of pride in my Oklahoma heritage when I wear my Cowboy Hat or my special Oklahoma belt buckle. It makes my happy and I think that is really what matters.

Ive Been doing that for almost 5 yrs now. I wear it every day, including on vacations and trips. Only time I don't wear it is when im working. Not that its allowed (I never asked) but I don't want to get it damaged and stained from the work I do. ( I fix cars and mount tires etc).

Also Im not Scottish or Irish and chose to wear Kilts full time on my own. And I don't let others dictate when or when I cant wear it. That goes with family as well.
